- Information from the 2020 and 2021 EconAlliance/Broadband Consortium Pacific Coast Broadband Forums
This briefing was an update of one developed in early 2020 after the Econ Alliance Broadband Advisory Group chair Chris Chirgwin suggested a North County Fiber Ring and they began using the notional concept (not yet an engineering design) of the Ring featured on briefing page 40 and 41.
While the demographics are now outdated by the 2020 census update, and there may be new fiber since the Fiber Locator maps (pages 24-25 for Guadalupe) may be missing fiber added since 2019, the briefing should still prove helpful. Briefing page 19 shows the various undersea cable entry points discussed in our call, page 15 describes the Chumash feasibility/strategy now completed, and page 16 gives an overview of the Vandenberg Space Force Base fiber project which the Consortium and EconAlliance helped support. Pages 37-38 describe what we had heard last spring-summer about Digital West’s project intentions (before they merged with WAVE). (Provided by Vicki Connor)

Harvard Report: Enabling Competition & Innovation on City Fiber Network
The technology of network virtualization has enabled the city of Ammon, Idaho, to inexpensively open its fiber network to competing service providers.
In Ammon, residential and business customers may choose from different providers and even receive multiple services simultaneously, create private networks within Ammon’s city network, and obtain city services and emergency alerts over the network even if they don’t have an Internet access subscription. The project, though in an early stage, represents a versatile technological and operational model for other public fiber networks. - Appomattox, VA – Population: 1,792 Gigabit ISP: Firefly Fiber ($79.99/month)
